Working at Heights (Face to Face)
Course Description
Working at height routinely causes the highest number of major injuries and fatalities in the UK work place. Where accidents occur as a result of working at height they can often be life changing for the victim and costly for the employer. This course will support the development of knowledge and understanding of health & safety concerns when working at height. Critically, this knowledge and understanding will be developed in such a way as to promote consistent, real world application of good health and safety practice and compliance in accordance with law.
Course Delivery Method: Face to Face.
For essential services, or where authorised, On Site training can be conducted depending on which current level of the National Framework for Living with Covid-19 is in place and once the minimum infection controls below can be observed:
- A minimum of 2 metres between each trainee.
- A well aired room with windows that can be open.
- Hand sanitiser or/and gloves made available to all trainees.
- All hard surfaces cleaned before and after the training course.
- No other personnel allowed in the room until the course has finished.
- No entry of personnel showing any symptoms of COVID-19.
- Pre-screening Covid-19 questionnaire completed and approved before course commencement.
- All Government, HSE, WHO & CIF guidelines can be adhered to.
The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 (part 4 of the General Application Regulations) sets out that all staff are trained in the work that they do. This course aims to provide the participants with an understanding of how to operate safely when working at heights. Participants will be trained to work at heights safely. Candidates will understand the legal requirements to carry out the work, how to select the correct equipment for their work and identify the dangers with working at heights.
The course is delivered incorporating exercise and classroom training. Course materials are provided for all participants. The Working at Heights Course comprised of the following modules:
- Introduction & Welcome.
- Module 1 – Legisalation & Accident Statistics.
- Module 2 – Risk Assessment & Planning of Work.
- Module 3 – Fall Prevention & Harness Use.
- Module 4 – Platforms & Roof Work.
- Module 5 – Selection & Inspection of Work Equipment.
- Module 6 – Safety Controls Measures.
- Module 7 – Exclusion Zones.
- Module 8 – Ladder Use & Safety
Additional modules & information can be included on request. On successful completion of the programme the attendants will be issued with a SMT certificate.
Who should attend?
All personnel involved in any activities including work at heights.
Prior knowledge
No prior knowledge requirement.
Pre-course preparation
When training is to be delivered on site the employer must ensure that suitable abrasive wheels are available on site for practical demonstration purposes and that they are in good working condition. Learners are required to:
- Complete our Pre-Course Questionnaire 3 days prior to course.
- Complete our COVID-19 Training Commencement form 3 days prior to course (On Site courses only).
