Tractor Maintenance (Face to Face)

Course Description


Tractors are versatile pieces of machinery due to the ever expanding types of attachments available for them, making them valuable tools within many different sectors. It is important to use the tractor correctly to ensure that accidents do not happen, so gaining relevant training, and even updating your knowledge and skills if you are a more experienced driver, is invaluable. The course can last from two to four days depending on the experience of the trainees and the course being delivered.

Course Delivery Method: Face to Face.

For essential services, or where authorised, On Site training can be conducted depending on which current level of the National Framework for Living with Covid-19 is in place and once the minimum infection controls below can be observed:

  • A minimum of 2 metres between each trainee.
  • A well aired room with windows that can be open.
  • Hand sanitiser or/and gloves made available to all trainees.
  • All hard surfaces cleaned before and after the training course.
  • No other personnel allowed in the room until the course has finished.
  • No entry of personnel showing any symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Pre-screening Covid-19 questionnaire completed and approved before course commencement.
  • All Government, HSE, WHO & CIF guidelines can be adhered to.

To attain the necessary skills to operate safely and efficiently. The main objectives of this course are as follows:

  • Understand current legislation applicable to tractor operators.
  • Describe how to conduct a pre-operational work area safety check.
  • Describe how to conduct a pre-operational safety check of the tractor and how to record it.
  • Describe how to operate safely and understand tractor terminology.
  • Describe how to re-fuel, shutdown and secure the tractor.

On completion of this candidates will be able to Demonstrate the safe and efficient use of a tractor for type of works:

  • Conduct and record pre-operational checks on the tractor.

The course is delivered in a classroom environment using PowerPoint presentation, course handouts, exercises and multimedia. The course is highly practical and involves group discussions.

  • Introduction & Welcome.
  • Module 1 – Risk Assessment and Safety Procedures.
  • Module 2 – Duties of the Employer / Employees.
  • Module 3 – Safe Operating & Driving.
  • Module 4 – Practical operation.

Additional modules & information can be included on request. On successful completion of the programme the attendants will be issued with a SMT certificate.

All operatives and Supervisors.

Prior knowledge

Previous experience essential.

Pre-course preparation

Candidates are required to bring the following on the training day:

  • Provision of Agricultural Tractor equipped with trailer towing capability and 3-point mounting linkage.
  • Good vision, Full class W Drivers License.
  • All operators must provide appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment.
  • Operators Manual.
  • Complete our Pre-Course Questionnaire 3 days prior to course.
  • Complete our COVID-19 Training Commencement form 3 days prior to course (On Site courses only).
