Use & Maintenance of Horticulture Equipment (Face to Face)

Course Description


There is a wide range of Horticulture Equipment in use today, and if used correctly and maintained properly then they should pose very little risk to you or to anyone that is near to these piece of equipment. Sometimes accidents can happen, normally for very simple reasons, and that is why training is very important.

Course Delivery Method: Face to Face.

For essential services, or where authorised, On Site training can be conducted depending on which current level of the National Framework for Living with Covid-19 is in place and once the minimum infection controls below can be observed:

  • A minimum of 2 metres between each trainee.
  • A well aired room with windows that can be open.
  • Hand sanitiser or/and gloves made available to all trainees.
  • All hard surfaces cleaned before and after the training course.
  • No other personnel allowed in the room until the course has finished.
  • No entry of personnel showing any symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Pre-screening Covid-19 questionnaire completed and approved before course commencement.
  • All Government, HSE, WHO & CIF guidelines can be adhered to.

The overall aim of this programme is to ensure that operators of Horticulture Equipment are trained in the safe use, operation and maintenance of the following:

  • Lawnmowers.
  • Strimmer’s/Bush Cutters.
  • Hedge Trimmers.
  • Leaf Blowers/Vacuum.

The course is delivered in a classroom environment using PowerPoint presentation, course handouts, exercises and multimedia. The course is highly practical and involves group discussions.

  • Introduction & Welcome.
  • Module 1 – Legislation & Safety.
  • Module 2 – Types, Operation & Maintenance of Lawnmowers.
  • Module 3 – Types, Operation & Maintenance of Strimmer’s/Bush cutters.
  • Module 4 – Types, Operation & Maintenance of Hedge Trimmers.
  • Module 5 – Types, Operation & Maintenance of Leaf Blowers/Vacuum.

Additional modules & information can be included on request. On successful completion of the programme the attendants will be issued with a SMT certificate.

Who should attend?

All personnel operating using or maintaining Horticulture Equipment.

Prior knowledge

No prior knowledge is required however some operating experience of Horticulture Equipment is an advantage.

Pre-course preparation

Candidates are required to bring the following on the training day:

  • All operators must provide appropriate Personnel Protective Equipment.
  • Operators Manual.
  • Complete our Pre-Course Questionnaire 3 days prior to course.
  • Complete our COVID-19 Training Commencement form 3 days prior to course (On Site courses only).
