Basic First Aid (Face to Face)
Course Description
This course is designed to enable the learner to understand the responsibilities of the first aider, provide treatment for the purpose of preserving life or minimising the consequences of injury until discharge or the arrival of medical assistance, provide treatment for an injury which does not require the attention of medical personnel, the treatment of a patient with breathing difficulty and/or cardiac arrest and the operation of AED defibrillators for adult, child and infants and deal with heart attack, angina and many other emergencies that may occur.
Course Delivery Method: Face to Face.
For essential services, or where authorised, On Site training can be conducted depending on which current level of the National Framework for Living with Covid-19 is in place and once the minimum infection controls below can be observed:
- A minimum of 2 metres between each trainee.
- A well aired room with windows that can be open.
- Hand sanitiser or/and gloves made available to all trainees.
- All hard surfaces cleaned before and after the training course.
- No other personnel allowed in the room until the course has finished.
- No entry of personnel showing any symptoms of COVID-19.
- Pre-screening Covid-19 questionnaire completed and approved before course commencement.
- All Government, HSE, WHO & CIF guidelines can be adhered to.
The Basic First Aid Module provides information on the basic principles of First Aid, enabling life to be preserved and minor accidents to be dealt with in the workplace.
The course is delivered incorporating practical exercises and classroom training. The course is presented using overheads, slides and group exercises. Course materials are provided for all participants. Course content includes the following:
- Introduction & Welcome.
- Module 1 – Legislation.
- Module 2 – Diagnosis & Principles of Treatment.
- Module 3 – Signs & Symptoms.
- Module 4 – Emergency Action.
- Module 5 – Bleeding & Wounds.
- Module 6 – Electric Shock.
- Module 7 – Burns.
- Module 8 – Sprains, Strains & Dislocations.
- Module 9 – First Aid Boxes & Materials.
- Module 10 – Specific Workplace Hazards.
Additional modules & information can be included on request. On successful completion of the programme the attendants will be issued with a SMT certificate.
Who should attend?
All employees who are not appointed as certified Occupational First Aiders.
Prior knowledge
No prior knowledge is required.
Pre-course preparation
Learners are required to:
- Complete our Pre-Course Questionnaire 3 days prior to course.
- Complete our COVID-19 Training Commencement form 3 days prior to course (On Site courses only).
